MORE DETAILS

WHO

The course is designed for those who have already completed the Foundation Course in the Justice Based Approach. They are leaders of development and humanitarian initiatives, as well as broader civil society or activism -- individuals who want to create positive social change or environmental impact in their work, life and community.

As always, we welcome participants from all levels of organisations and from diverse departments, which creates a rich mix of experience and perspectives. The course will be conducted in English.

WHAT

This course will take the Justice Based Approach to the next level -- asking participants to reflect critically on their practice and actions as professionals and citizens. We will explore the following:

  • Destructive systems and regeneration

  • Oppression, positionality and liberation

  • Strategic and personal leadership

  • Creative and effective action

  • Collaboration and decision-making

  • Accountability practices

  • Campaigning and advocacy

  • Alternative models for change and society

  • Localization and decolonizing aid

  • Personal development and reflection

  • Climate and gender mainstreaming

The course will challenge you, inspire you and give you the tools to support communities and partners to lead change that is truly transformative.

HOW

The course will be conducted online with the possibility of a face-to-face event if possible. We will use mixed methodologies including participatory live sessions, interactive online tools, movement, games, reflection, group activities, optional offline self-study, and more. Our in-person trainings are not "death by PowerPoint," and our online courses are not "death by Zoom" either!

Our style of online delivery creates genuine human connection, facilitates deeply reflective and thoughtful discussions, and leads to real impact and effectiveness.

This course is designed and facilitated by United Edge co-founders Daniel Bevan and Matthew Kletzing. With a combined experience of more than 30 years in the humanitarian, development and human rights sectors across Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, they bring a wealth of hands-on experience and expert facilitation skills. Find out more about their areas of expertise and background here.

WHEN

The course is currently being developed and we hope to start in 2023 and will take place over a few months.

All sessions will take place during the morning for Africa and Europe, late morning for the Middle East, mid-day for South Asia, the afternoon for Southeast Asia, and the early evening for the Pacific and Australia.

COLLECTIVE EDGE

The Justice Based Approach: Advanced Course will lead into an initiative called Collective Edge -- a collective of professionals and activists committed to shifting the way that change happens and creating an organisation that embeds justice in its structure, functions and projects. Check out this concept note about how Collective Edge might look.
