LOST IN TRANSLATION: SAFEGUARDING IN CONTEXT
United Edge with Samwel Maphie, Neesha Fakir, Filipo Masaurua, and Adenuga Oluwatosin
Safeguarding guidelines and standards often come directly from the requirements of donors rather than from the lived experience of those we are seeking to keep safe. Even the word 'safeguarding' can get lost in translation in international contexts and people's ideas about power, harm, and abuse vary so much between cultures.
In this panel discussion, the guest speakers from our upcoming Transformative Safeguarding Course come together to discuss contextualizing their safeguarding practice, the colonial roots of our work and the importance of continued two-way learning and growth when it comes to keeping people safe.

FAIRNESS BETWEEN GENERATIONS: LOOKING BACK AND MOVING FORWARD
United Edge with Esther Stanford-Xosei, Priya Lukka, and Katindi Sivi
When we look at the problems in the world we often view them with a narrow perspective focused on the present situation. If we want to address those injustices, we need to look at where they began and where they may lead us. Social and environmental justice requires an intergenerational lens that expands our work beyond reactive programming to strategic system change using reparations and foresight.

WALKING THE TALK: BUILDING FEMINIST ORGANISATIONS
United Edge with Memory Kachambwa, Monika Niroula, and Nancy Kachingwe
We pay so much lip service to 'mainstreaming gender equality' or working on 'gender justice' in our projects, yet are our organisations living out these same values internally, too? What does it take to build feminist organisations?

SAFEGUARDING: FROM COMPLIANCE TO JUSTICE
United Edge with Oge Chukwudozie, Rabia Gungor, and Filipo Masaurua
In recent years we have seen scandal, fear, reputational risk, and compliance act as key drivers for the development and review of safeguarding policies and practices. To truly transform our safeguarding approach we need to take a radical and critical look at our organizations and ourselves from the inside out.
Our panel of safeguarding experts discuss centring our work on justice and moving towards prevention, protection, genuine compassion and agency.
